Jayme's right. For the quick notes, you've gotta alternate and there is that little pause, there, too. And for what it's worth, the 2-3-2 part, I play basically as hammer on's, but... not. You know what I mean? Wow, sorry, that was the worst explanation ever, but I hope it helps you some.

I had a song kinda like that a while ago that I wrote, messed around with and I used these chords for the chorus. X32010, X33010, X33211 They're all pretty similar in tone; they're C, a weird C# kinda deal, and F/F#, but if you strum them slow and with a little "sparkle" and some cool timing it ...

It's not that much of a difference. There are a lot of myths and overreacting in any hobby. If you manage to break the cedar wood by strumming, then I want your autograph. However IMHO spruce often feels nicer when smooching the guitar (I do that, don't ask.).
