The group has also been hard at work on a new studio album, due before the end of the year via RCA.
i thought they were done with rca?
no, this is most likely going to be the last one for them
thats weird cause i thought the whole point of the Best Of cd was to fulfill their contract with RCA and then bounce out of there
well the best of cd was to get them one step closer so that this next studio album with let them fulfill the contract

I'm wondering once they're free of the obligations with RCA is they'll leave batson behind with it...

Yeah.

I would think they'd release it mid-july, a couple weeks before the start of the tour. That random show in july could be a release-party type show.

Will no longer being with RCA potentially mean anything for the quality of future albums?

well ya they do like batson, but they also probably have to work with him. They have this co-producer with them on this album maybe they'll switch to just him once they start getting things rolling again.

Code: Select all

Most album years, tiny bits of information leaks out here and there, and fans generally have an idea of what to expect. So with the dearth of information out now, it's easy to see why fans are a bit edgy lately. Turns out there is a very good reason for the lack of info.

To sum it up: there ain't no info. Multiple sources tell antsmarching.org that the Dave Matthews Band recording session should be starting back up in late April or early May. According to sources, DMB began recording tracks in November 2006, and took an extended break in December for the holidays and began again in January. The band only recorded a few tracks, Shotgun, Idea Of You, and Can't Stop to name a few. Those were all recorded with the idea of using them for the next album. Sources say that Break Free has fallen out of favor, but was attempted in studio.

But the status of those recordings is up in the air. With the beginning of some fresh sessions, the previous recordings may be scrapped, and those songs may be re-recorded (then again, maybe they won't).

So, in reality, there literally isn't anything to report from the studio so far.

And just in case you're reading into something here that really isn't here, a source familiar with the recording sessions says that the band is right now very together musically.

What does that all mean? Rather than look historically at DMB years and wonder which it would be most like, the songs for the tour this year will be unique. Expect some material to come about while on tour (similar to Loving Wings and Can't Stop did), and expect some new songs to change considerably while on tour (as Raven and Crazy-Easy did). You can also expect to see some songs come and go (Kill The King and Sweet Up And Down).

As always, things change dramatically. As a personal example, I remember seeing a show in Tampa in 2000, and during Raven, turning to my wife and saying, "We'll be hearing this song for the next few years!" In other words, if you want to hear some of this new stuff, get your tickets for This Tour. Don't make the mistake of presuming what you'll hear in the next few tours. Who knows what they'll play next year.

The last word had the album slated for a November-ish release. That date could move up or down dramatically.

in that case sweet. guess that makes this summer not an album tour, and the likelyhood a winter tour much more conceivable

I'm glad that the album has been rumored for a later release. Hopefully later release = more time in studio = quality album.
