Help me pick out a guitar

I'll admit, a lot of the money you spend on a Taylor is for the playability. They just feel like butter in your hands, but tend to have a brighter tone. Martins have a deeper, fuller sound IMO. The only reason I'd pick a Taylor over a Martin is for the playability, they both sound awesome.
Anyhoo, I'd play as many guitars in your price range as possible. Depending on where you live, I'd check out at least 3-4 guitar shops in the area and play every acoustic they have. Besides Taylor and Martin I'd check out...

I have an Epiphone Masterbilt DR-500R and I find myself playing it almost as much as my Martin and my Taylor...I think I paid about $550 for mine. larrivee is my personal taste and most certainly what i would get if i were you. you need to find what matches your playing style.

if i want to play this thing unplugged, should i get one with out a pick up (would that sound better?) or does it matter?
