just adjust the truss rod slowly. messin with the saddle or nut is dangerous business
you have to adjust the saddle/nut height if you want to lower action
truss rod is only for straightening out the neck.. dont just start yanking on the truss rod if you think your action is high

... if the action is desireable at the 1st fret but gets higher as you go up the neck, as it is with most cases, then the neck is bowed too much, which can be fixed by a simple adjust of old trussy.
I've heard that you do want extremely low action for tapping, like the width of a penny at the 12th fret, but that sounds really low to me and I wonder if you could even get that on most acoustics without touching the 1st fret.
Maybe you need a really high nut to get that low and avoid buzz?
