What is considered a high action??

I dont know if my action is high or not. Is it good to have low action, especially for tapping? but how long can you get it and still jam freely without worrying it will hit the frets?

i dont consider 1/8 too high, especially around the 12th/14th fret

anything near a 1/4 is WAY too high

yes at the first fret, technically, the action on a GOOD guitar shouldn't change that much as you go up the neck

yeah thats optimal, but ive never seen it.

plus action is really an opinion thing

does lowering the action produce fret buzz? i am having the same concerns as tranman with the same guitar... action is a little high on it. can I do it myself?

Yes you can do it yourself easily, just got to be careful if you havent done any work on a guitar before
Once you get too low it does buzz on every guitar, you just want to find the lowest possible without any major fret buzz. You can adjust the action by turning the truss rod and/or shaving the saddle down and/or filing the nut. If your saddle comes off the bridge significantly, you could start off by taking it out and scraping the bottom on some wire sheet or something level but abrasive..............then slowly turning the truss rod clockwise-i think, idk- a little at a time and letting the guitar rest and adjust before you start playing it or turning it again.

or better yet you can look on google for lowering the action of a guitar, there are tons of places that explain it better than i can,
yea just go look it up, I dont want to be the blaime if your guitar fucks up.....they are all different you know

just adjust the truss rod slowly. messin with the saddle or nut is dangerous business

High action is good for slide, I think that's probably the best/only reason to have it.
