Tim Mahoney from 311 is really easily recognizable to my ear. So is Santana, but he sucks ass. I can always tell a David Gilmour solo as well, 'cause they're all just genius.

Add Tom Morello to the list.... I also agree with you waffle house that David Gilmour's style is definietly recongnizable.

as stupid as this sounds, tenacious d has great riffs using nothing but three chords, usually g, c, d, w/ the occasional am

tributes got f's and is in the key of amin. i think, while they sound good, its not nescessarily distinctive.

Slowhand aka Eric Clapton has a very distinctive sound as well as Jimmy Page.

i know... its just that tribute is the only tenacious d i kno. and i dont know if chord progressions are really considered "riffs". if so nirvana has very distinctive riffs cause they use like 3 different chords and the blues scale. thats it. im not tryin to be nit picky. i like tenacious d.

i think the guitarist formerly of creed (i say formerly they are no longer a band) and currently of alter bridge, mark tremonti has a style or sound that is easily recognizable.
