How much of the pick do you leave exposed when playing?

when im chicken pickin and playin songs like "Tribute" (Teancious D) that have that sharper strumming id say 1/2 inch, for most songs about 1/4

I Use a Dunlop .58mm with a gator head on it (super durable and great feel all around). I do the previously mentioned and use bout 1/4 to an 1/8th and the index which ,IMO , provides some interesting sounds (ie: I like the growl I get from the low e when smakin it with the index).

Those are called Gator Grips, in case you didn't know. They're great picks, but in my opinion, wear down quicker than tortex do..

I agree TORTEX is the way to go, I believe I use the .70 or somthin like that, the Yellow ones. Orange is better for strumming, its a little thinner. And im not asshole either, I just tell it like it is.

Ok i'm a f'n retard. Wtf are you guys talking about using your index finger? You mean using it w/o a pick? I never really took lessons or watched anyone up close play guitar so I know I've developed some bad habbits while playing. The most noticable one is my facial expressions, heh. But anywho, I don't think I do this finger thing.

my expressions suck too! and we mean with a pick. i hold my pick kinda like a penil with my index finger on the top ridge and my thumb and middle fingers on the side
