Re: **Big Whiskey and The GrooGrux King** - Out Now

Does anyone else think that dave references questioning or not believing in god or religion a little too much? I'm a nature lover and far from a church go'er but after reading the lyrics dave throws something in every song on the album, just seems a little much to me. I would also prefer to hear dave's guitar, there isn't any clean acoustic tracks like SMTS or The Stone. Other than those two things I'm pretty fukcing happy with the album. Its definitely better than Stand Up in my opinion. Now i've got to see about gettting this bonus disc?

i dunno - i think it's kind of interesting actually if it's about him personally, like his struggle with it through different events of his life - but then again, i don't like when he makes broad, anti-faith statements in some of his lyrics, but both pro or con are a huge topic of a lot of his music before this album, so it's not too surprising IMO

the background smaller scale guitar, ventil-a-mahicky or whatever it is called, is awesome in this song.
Couldn't agree more, LITHOG is an incredible song.

Was #27 written for this album or was it a way-back track that just now got into the studio?

Thanks

It's a newer song (2-3 years I think) but they recorded it during these sessions

Yeah, I'm pretty sure it was debuted on the Dave and Tim Europe Tour in '07.

It debuted right after Corn Bread on the D&T tour. It was the 27th song they were working on in the studio, hence #27. Dave also said live that it feels like an older song, which may explain using numbers to title the song.

the album's good, i'd say really good, but it sounds a little mtv-ish, maybe because i still have my hopes up that the BTSC days will return soon... or this really is DMB from now on - MTV material...

I find it funny how most of us think "Seven" is or almost is the worst song on this album, and Dave and Carter go crazy over it on the Fuse TV documentary, "Road to Big Whiskey." Something like "I defy anyone to make a song more well-rounded than this" and Dave compares it to a pendulum.

All in all, I"m really enjoying this album the more I listen to it. But I would love to see Lillywhite back as producer. I won't hold my breath.

I think I may be the only one who isn't that fond of this album. I just can't into it. I wish that I could, but I can't.
