LIOG Rhythm

Anyone have any advice on the strumming/rhythm on LIOG especially when the band comes in...I'de appriciate it...

During the verse, all the notes are downstrokes, except for the very first D chords, where it is a down, up, then down stroke again. when the band comes in, you play this:

E:-2--------x-----0---0---3--
B:-3--------x-----0---2---0--
G:-2--------x-----0---2---0--
D:-0--------x-----2---2---0--
A:----4--2--x-----2-------2--
E:-----------x-----0-------3--

Em A G

hit the Em chord with a quick down, up, down; the A with only one downstroke, and the G with one downstroke, and then a quick mute of all the strings, and get back in the rythm of the main riff. hopefully that might help. also, if you know how to play ants marching, the last part of the chorus of that song is similar (not the chords, but the rythm) to this part.

yeah billywestom explained it well, only that I like to hit a quick A chord before going into the D (when the Band kicks in to gear)

so yeah I hit the A chord again after the G like this:

E:-2--------x-----0---0---3---0--
B:-3--------x-----0---2---0---2--
G:-2--------x-----0---2---0---2--
D:-0--------x-----2---2---0---2--
A:----4--2--x-----2-------2------
E:-----------x-----0-------3-------

you get the idea, instead of holding the G until the D comes, I leave the G, go to A and then back to D. but that's just me.

you could probably play any 3 chords real quick and it would sound good! or just hit a bunch of mutes, who knows...

Acutally, it is not a G chord. It is a Gsus6, meaning that the 6th scale degree of G major is included in the chord. As the 6th is not a member of the triad, it must be notated when included in the chord. A Gsus6 is also an inversion of the Em chord, so the first person to introduce it was in fact correct. Specifically, it is an Em 6/3, or the first inversion of Em.

Yep, It's a big phat G6 kinda chord, that you hit the fuck out of on this tune. whatever you call it - it's not for long but ya hear it and it's great!@!!

I've been playing for about a year and a half, and I have no clue about this sus, sixth, whatever. I know minor and major chords, power chords, bar chords, open chords, and anything else that Dave plays. How about instead of learning all that stuff we just play what sounds good?
