muting strings in dave chords...help!

Post by cpowell21 »

I cant figure out how to mute the strings effectively while playing a dave chord. If someone could give me any advice on how they do it or what finger they use I would greatly appreciate it. thanks.

depends on which chord you're talking about. muting is a lot easier than you think. most inexperienced guitar players will mute even when they don't want to. you basically let whichever finger that is closest to the neck lay across the strings without fretting anything.

I was asking for songs like greystreet and two step where there is a gap in between the low E and the D string. When I mute with my top finger I can only get the string below the one that I am holding down.

i find that i typically use my ring finger to mute large quantities of strings :)

ie: if im hamering 3h5 on e or a i'll use my ring finger to mute the strings under e or a.

do you mute with a finger that you are not holding a string down with?

for grey street and two step, it's easiest to mute with the finger that's on the low e string. just lay it sloppily across the middle strings.
