It seems like every few responses I read to any questions about Martins that someone says that they are "hit or miss" in terms of their quality.
Does this mean that some are just made better and sound better than others? Is this because of lower quality standards that Martin has or something? Also, does anyone know how much it would cost extra to have an Engelmann spruce top put on an HD-35 or D-35 from the Martin custom shop? (J. Mayer sucks a big schlong.....)
I have heard this from multiple people, but the truth is, I have never heard a bad Martin, and I've played/heard quite a few. Just make sure wherever you buy a guitar from has a generous return policy, no matter what brand you get.
