Dave's Goin Back!?!?!?

I finally got to read that article in the september acoustic guitar world magazine....At the begining of the article in parenthesis it says to not hold your breath about dave goin back to the original style...he just made busted stuff to put the songs from LWS out on the market. Will he go back to that poppy Bubblegum stuff like alot of the stuff from Everyday?


Dont get me wrong there are a couple excellent songs on everyday but alot of the other stuff just isnt "dave". Does anyone know if that statement in the magazine was true?

dude, go right ahead and say it bro...everyday just plain sucks, i havent listened to that cd since the first day i bought it...who in their right mind would listen to everyday over crash, UTTD,BCS, etc. I sure as hell hope he never picks up that shitty black guitar again.

I don't like to make opinions before I see proof. But I doubt that would happen. Otherwise we'd have other songs out there that aren't, like HHW, Blue Water, Spotlight, SUAD, Monkey Man.

Stefan said (I think it was him) that they always like those songs and didn't want to ditch them, but it just wasn't working with lillywhite. So they gave them a break.

And if Gravedigger and Loving Wings are are any clue, they aren't going pop, they're sticking DMB.

Everyday was a 'forced' album. They (Dave and Glen) wrote the songs in the studio in, what, 10 days or so. Some really nice little tunes came out of it, like Space Between, Fool To Think, Everyday, What You Are, If I had It All. The rest are, well you know. I think that the writing Dave does on his own time, and the blossoming of the songs that occurs with time with the rest of the band, will not go away. but it is possible for good songs to be written in the studio without any live play. If I'm not mistaken, The Stone was written in the studio for BTCS. I think it was the first one, actually to be written and recorded in the studio. Anyway, I'm doing some serious rambling here, (coffee) but I don't think anyone should take what's written in magazines and papers so literally and/or seriously. I like Everyday but in a different way than I like Crash or BTCS. Everyday is a "bob your head to" or a good "driving" C.D. Crash and BTCS are 2 of the best albums ever made in my opinion, musically. When I listen to these tunes, I'm lost - I don't think of anything else. ok, I'm gonna stop now.

I agree with Ken...Everyday is a good CD...there are some tight tunes and some terrible tunes (Mother Father)...but Before These Crowded Streets...well that right there is just about as good as any album could get.

I think all those songs were good. but not all of them were great. I'm passed that denial stage. I've come to terms to the fact that all of what DMB has done isn't GREAT.

EDIT: or so I'm led to believe.....I really do think everything they do is great. I'm a victim of my own mind

For people to question the musicianship of Everyday is just silly, in my opinion. The album is absolutely MASTERFUL, perhaps more so than any other. Now, it's fine to debate how it is that such musicianship was acheived, and I have no problems with people who don't like it because the album is not as improvisitory. But you cannot intelligently question the virtuosity of the music or writing. The parts blended absolutely seamlessly, in beautiful fashion, floating through modulations and tempo shifts effortlessly. One of the things that I most appreciated about the album was the diminished role of Boyd. While the guy is a great entertainer, he is NOT a great violinist. He's able to groove with the band, and that's well and all, but he is easily the worst musician of the lot. I can't tell you the number of times I've listened to a song that Boyd "goes off" on and wondered, why is he playing? He is at his best when acting as filler and rhythm. Boyd is not a "lead" violinist, and Baird made sure Boyd was used where he serves the band best.

The band wouldn't be the same without the electric violin...

...ahh, I'm not going to put up a fight; I just think that he plays a large-a-role as any of the others in the band...

Well, I personally enjoy the everyday albumn. It is the least listened to albumn, but, I like it.

The only thing that bugs me about the arguement is that people say "It's not Dave Matthews Band" or "that's not their sound." I heard a radio interview around the time BS wasd released and Dave was asked what he though about the Everyday "controversy." He replied by saying asking how could we know what their sound is. Of, course we are used to hearing a particular type of music from this band. However, Dave said that we are not them and shouldn't the band be the ones that know what their own sound is.

I am sure there are arguments to this, but it raises a good point.

All in all everyone has their own tastes.

I admit, the first time I listened to Everyday, I didn't like it. But the more I listened to it the more I began to appreciate some of the songs Dave created. "When the World Ends" has become one of my favorite DMB tunes, especially live. I think as fans, we don't need to worry about this band coming up with more great tunes. I never thought the band would be able to top crash, but then BTCS came out and I was proved wrong. Dave will not all of a sudden stop making great music. I dont know about you guys, but I cant wait for what he comes up with next.
