Want to ask about strings, maintenance, amps, mics, or comparisons of different guitars or any music equipment? This is for all threads related to music equipment.
I just got back from Guitar Center. I asked they guy up there about putting electronics into a guitar. So i wanted to put fishman pick ups in my Taylor 110. He shows me 3 different ones.
First one was where you clip it onto the soundhole.
Then the third one was where you drill a small hole and put a red rod about 3 inches long under the bridge (or where the strings go in the body). then a black rod goes where the strap peg is and thats where you plug it in. sorry if this is confusing i tried to explain it my best. http://www.venuemusic.com.au/Products.asp?ProdID=2462
Which do you think is the best, and are there any other options out there?
Any help would be appreciated.
the first two you mentiond were "soundhole pickups"
the first one is put into the soundhole and is removable
the second one is the same, but the wire is attached to the guitar and then you plug a wire into the guitar just like an electric guitar (if this dosent make sense, just ask me or him)
the third one is a "bridge pickup" it takes the place of the bridge and, well, is a pickup... this is plugged in to the guitar the same way as the seocnd one
i would go with the 3rd one defently... it will probably be a little more expinsive
i have never used the first two
the third one usually comes standard in 'electric-acoustic guitars'

I'd be curious as to what ya'll say to this..
Yes they are I had one permanatly installed in my Big Baby(back up guitar for gigs) THis pickup is AWESOME for soundhole.
i have to ask if the original poster for this. it may not be worth it to put in. but if you really want to do it then go with a bridge pickup. it is definately the best. they also have bridge/mic combo pickups which are even better.
I just bought Fishman Natural 1 pickup for my Chet SST to be installed. It's the bridge pickup, and the tech that I talked to said it would sound 10X better than it used to. I'm so happy this thing will sound good now.
Natural 1 or 2 woud be good. But I'd just get a soundhole one if you have a soundhole (which I do not).
Ive been thinking and reading your opinions. I think im going to go with #3. It just seems the most reasonable and best from the guy explaining it to me at GC and everyone here. thanks for the help everyone

They are not silly. I get comments on my how good my guitar sounds through the soundhole pickup. But is fishman so that's why.
