Listen to each of their Little Wing...regardless of who wrote what...
SRV BEASTS HENDRIX ANYDAY...
you see the problem with most people (mainly youngsters) who think they are little authorities on music just say Hendrix because it is cool to like Hendrix...I am familiar with a boatload of music from both...same reason people say they love Michael Jackson, because it is concidered fashonable!!!...SRV beats Hendrix in every way shape and form...I realise it is only my opinion and everyone else can like whatever they want...it is just when you see people acting like they know it all, and saying, "yeaaaaahhh...Hendrix is da' man!"...
yeah, true dat, same with clapton, clap's still my favorite personally, but SRV, man, he absolutely smokes them both...and his signature strat is nice too...definitely an axe I'm keeping for life...
People love to hype hendrix's music without ever really listening to it. I mean damn he was a great guitar player, but I can't really get into many of his songs. I am not a big fan of his lyrics either, with a few exceptions.
Don't judge a player on the basis of how fast he shreds. It sounds like that is what you guys are doing.
I love both of these players with all of my being, but I still consider hendrix the more influential. Listen to his Blues album.
I would agree that SRVs Little Wing and Voodoo Chile are more entertaining.
Yes, it is cliche to say Jimi is the greatest player ever as the default. But I really don't think that is overrating him. I really do believe he is the greatest player of all time.

yeesh...I think the shreddar speed demons (Steve Via etc.) are nothing special...it is all about melody and writing...not seeing how fast somebody can play their scales...regardless of speed, SRV just ripped up music better...

I can document my favorite NOTE in all of guitar music. The sustained bend on the outro solo of Pride and Joy by SRV. The tone! It just screams!
