gibson acoustics?

So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

gibson acoustics?

Post by yetanotherone »

i know the high-end acoustic guitar debate will probably always be taylor v.s. martin, but what do you guys think of gibsons? the j-200 i played sounded amazing. (of course, the $2600 pricetag was a little rough)

the higher end gibson acoustics, like you were talking about, sound fantastic. however, lower end or medium range isnt so good. ive always thought that gibsons and fenders both were a bit over priced. seems with some of their models you are paying for a name instead of quality. i have to say it, go for martin, if it aint broke, dont fix it.

i despise gibson acoustics - they sound so plain.

I have a J-185 , that I actually got for free. It was from VH1's Fairway to Heaven a few years ago, so it has a bunch of autographs on it, Huey Lewis, Bill Murray, Alice Cooper etc.

so what do I do, I put new strings on it and play it - not a bad guitar, but with all the new Taylors coming out this fall I may sell it and get one of those.

i think it depends on what one you get.

i found a $900 used gibson that sounded better than almost any guitar i have ever played.....unfortunately i have not found one like it, and the rest i have played i have hated. :?

the only time ive played a gibson acoustic was when i went to the gibson showcase in nashville. there was not a single beautiful acoustic... they were so boring and plain

They have newer ones now that list over $5000. They sounded nice, but they are so bulky and cumbersome. Plus everytime I see a Gibson I think of Dashboard...*Shudders*

I personally like gibson guitars, not for dave's music though, too bassy for it.. My dad owns a gibson j-45 deluxe from 1973.. its beautiful in sound and looks.. I myself though, will eventually be a taylor/martin/gibson man.. always will, always will...;)

gibson can make a rocking electric guitar. i favor those in that field. but gibson acoustics. arghh they just don't put the bracing right and it takes away from so much of the sound. i think someone said it sounds plain and for 2000+ it's just not worth it.
