Let You Down HELP!!!

Can someone PLEASE explain to me the strumming pattern of LET YOU DOWN. I've watched this video 1000 times and I'm convinced Dave's hand is performing some kind of black magic. Clearly, to me anyway, he starts and ends each chord w/ a down stroke but when I do it I end on an upstroke. Am I just not playing fast enough??? HELP!!!

try to count it in 3. each chord would be 1+2+3 and start and end with a downstroke.
