does anybody play all dave songs in half step so they can sing better to it? i was wondering if i was the only one.

I don't know what the hell you're saying here, but nothing about tuning a half-step down will allow one to improvise better.
It's still the same intervals, and thus the same fret-to-fret relationships, as standard tuning.

Tuning lower does make string bends easier. Maybe that's what he meant?

I think it really depends on the person. Some singers are better fit with a guitar tuned down a half step. I've even seen some bands have one song or a few songs tuned down and the rest is standard. You can definately get a heavier sound tuning down for rock music and like tap said, makes bending a lot easier.

Pretty much every Alice in Chains song is tuned down a half step. I think it sounds pretty cool accompanied with the right singer.

Slash is another guitarist that is down a half step all the time. One of my favorite guitarists.
