I am a huge proponent of power adapters for pedals. Pedals like the DD-5/6 and the DL4 totally suck the juice from batteries, as do pedals like the Boss Loop Station. I use this:
This includes a little more than the one I have. The one I have is just the main adapter and the daisy chain to power 5 pedals, this one includes a chain to power 8 pedals plus a bunch of other adapters and such. It works a lot better than either batteries or different adapters for different pedals.
You might also check the wires connecting the 9V battery clip to the pedal. I've had the wires come unattached from the battery clips of a few pedals (another reason to buy an adapter). It's just a matter of soldering them again, but it could be the cause of your battery problems.
Yeah, Line 6, Boss, etc. would have you believe that such things will not work with their pedals, but that is because they want you to buy a Line 6, Boss, etc. adapter for your pedals. The only thing I've ever heard from an actual user about a generic adapter not working is with Digitech multi-effects. I don't use Digitech so I don't have any first hand experience at that, but I've heard enough problems with Digitech anyway so I wouldn't trace it right back to the power supply anyway.
