quick question. Does anyone have recommendations on hardware for hooking my guitar straight into a mac. I found one called a lightsnake, and am wondering if anyone here has used it.

A USB box would be the best idea. At least then you can control some levels, etc. This Lightsnake doesn't have the greatest specs now that I check it out.
