i just learned seek up (and feelin good cause i could sing it right off ) but i noticed in the main verse chord that my pinky kept cramping up. i never avoid using it and it's never bothered me, but there's always room for improvement.
do those hand exercize things work? what's a good way to strengthen your pinky? i thought i used it frequently, but aparently not enough...
thanks...

..get some little pinky weights and...just kidding, I've always found that if I get pains in my hand I shake it out and keep playing. I dont have a very good pinky either (i think there is something wrong with it, it moves all jerky and the joints ) but i just keep working on it, I would say you should do the same, just do some random exercises that work your pinky, like scales. Scales are great.
If you want to play a DMB song that "works out" the pinky, I would definitely start out with cry freedom. It's slow and gives you good practice with moving your pinky around. To build up explosive power with yor pinky, punching notes quickly with it, I would recommend two step. your fingers are moving all over the place and so is your pinky. To build up pinky endurance, Crash into me is good because you pinky is in the same place most of the song. As you get better and want to stretch out your pinky, I'd recommend Captain(crazy), WWBOM, and the nature intro to Tripping Billies. To build up the ability to slide your pinky, satellite works wonders. As a "final exam" if you will, warhouse and say goodbye test many of these pinky abilities.
Forget about the reasons and the treasons we are seeking
Forget about the notion that our emotions can be swept away, kept at bay
Forget about being guilty, we are innocent instead
For soon we will all find our lives swept away
hmmmm....cry freedom, captain, and two step are some of my favorites to play. you're right, cry freedom works the pinky. there's a chord in the BOWA verse that gives me pinky problems too.
it's weird, warehouse, say goodbye, two step....those don't give me problems. i've found that it's when the pinkey has to fret a note on the low E string and the others are on other strings (like seek up and bowa) that gives me problems....maybe because i am reaching further. i tried adjusting my grip, but no luck yet.
thanks everyone...

the best way to work on your pinky is to use it in place of what your ring finger usually does. i found out that this trick helped me the most with my littlest digit
I started off practicing satellite a lot, and that helped. Then I moved on to the nature intro into Billies, and that really really helped a lot. Once you've mastered those, The Stone should be no problemo.

Use the Gripmaster.Just about every music store carries them. They come in easy, medium, and hard. I used to have the same problem but I started using the Gripmaster and the stregnth and agility in my fingers has increased. They are small and you can use it wherever you go. Peace
