Chord up the Stone

Does anyone know how to play chords all the way through the verse instead of the almost impossible picking? This way i could sing and play the chords and have one of my friends do that nasty picking on his guitar. Thanks.

If you change all of the 5's to the next open string, the picking isn't very hard. I know that the main chord is D minor, though.

yeah i used to play it that way. actually i find it easier to play the normal way... i dont know why, its just easier for me.

I like it that way because my fingers are busy...

picking is essential to this song...no straight chords will make it sound right...

i had a hard time picking when i started, so i picked it w/o a pick. try using your index fingernail as your pick. it makes it easier, then when you get that down, use a pick...i still can't make it perfect w/ a pick

i think playing the 5's fretted is essential (over playing them open on nxt string) because of the percussiveness and muting and controlling the lengths of the notes... but play it as u wish

if you really want to play the verse to the song using only chords here they are (in Dave style no less):

Dm
E: X
B: X
G: 10
D: 7
A: 8
E: 10

Gm
E: X
B: X
G: 3
D: 0 (yes an open string! ah!)
A: 1
E: 3

B flat

E: X
B:X
G: 7
D: 3
A: 5
E: 6

C
same as b flat just move up 2 frets

in order to play this properly you have to realize that the song has a 6/8 time signature and all four chords get a different amount of beats

Dm: 6 beats
Gm: 12 beats
B flat: 3 beats
C: 3 beats

I don't know about the verse in chords, but the the chorus sounds decent with F,Am,Dm,C.

I refuse to play a song any other way than how dave plays it. I've learned a song and thought I had it down until I found out dave plays it differently and I had to relearn the whole song. No matter how hard it is, I just keep practicing until I can play it like dave. I won't settle for less.

try going to drop D and playing a lower version of the riff

(very roughly what timmy does)
then, mess around with different Bb and C voicings right before you go back to the riff.

it's sounds really cool if you're playing with someone else doing dave's part, but it's a lot easier.
