The Brain picks and Dunlop .73 Ultex have been my picks of choice for years now. The grip on the Brain picks is very cool, and I think you get a pretty bright sound with those too.

Christ! I will never understand how someone can use a pick that thick

Likewise. I tried the 1.0mm Dunlops and I just can't get used to them. .73-.80 is about as thick as I can go.

On the other end of the spectrum, my brother in law uses either the .38 or .46 Dunlop nylon picks on electric. Those are way too light and flimsy for me.

Good God Kahn. How can you even think about flatpicking with a pick that thin?

It just feels comfortable for me. With heavy picks I get almost slowed down. Im most comfortable with my fingernails now though. Its not traditional per say but its my own style.

Anyways, ya thick picks slow me down

This is what I use:

For Tommy Emmanuel (usually pick + fingers) - 2mm

For Tim soloing - 1mm

For strumming - 0.6-0.8mm

I use medium gauge strings though.
For light it might be better to use somewhat thinner picks.
