The "high B" in Raised B

I got my guitar into Raised B, since I'm getting a new guitar for Christmas and thought it'd be fun. I got all the strings in tune, but I'm curious about the B that is in place of the High E string. Is it supposed to be tuned to the standard B, or am I suppose to tune that as though it were capoed on the 7th fret.

I only ask because when I was getting close to the higher B, the string was so tight I thought it would snap.

i think you just tune it to a standard b....but i havent had any of my guitars in raised b for a while so i dont really remember for sure. sorry

Wait, are you using the high E to tune to B? If so, thats not the string you need to be using. Get yourself another B string and tune it just like normal.

If you followed the steps in the FAQ section of DMBTABS.COM of how to re-string to raised B, then the answer is you tune it to normal. Now it sounds kinda awkward because this is supposed to sound like the highest pitch string, when in fact it is not, but don't worry about that. All in all play stay or leave and it'll sound amazing..lol and it is so much easier to play then with a capo on the 7th fret.

Ok, thanks guys. I am using a Light B-String as my highest set string, and I did read the FAQ on how to tune it. I was just sort of iffy when I read through it, mostly because I get my terms mixed up every now and then. I thought pitch had another meaning.

Then again I hadn't slept for four days, so who knows what I was thinking. Anyway, thanks for the help guys.

you could buy a 12 string set, and tune the highest G to a B, then it will sound like the B with a capo on the 7th

Hey you know what your probably right.. lol i don't know musical terms very well. lol what i meant was there is The low E and then the tone of each string gets higher as you go down to each string.. and i meant that in Raised B tuning the high "B" is actually lower then the F# which makes it sound weird if you just pluck every string down, but you don't have to worry about it when playing songs cause it sounds ill nasty lol Hopefully that explained what i meant a lil better, but probably not! anyways when you get it all done up all nice nice your gonna like it a lot.

this thread inspired me to put one of my guitars in raised b, it sounds so much better then putting a capo on the 7th fret

I agree completely.

And thanks for all of the replies guys. I just wanted to make sure I had it tuned up right. The only reason I did this was because I want to keep useing all of my guitars. Considering I just got a Chet Atkins SST for Christmas!! ^_^
