Dancing Nancies Help please!!

So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

Dancing Nancies Help please!!

Post by NeoLP314 »

Ok so I bought the Dave and Tim live at Luther College today and i have never heard that cd before and omg did i fall in love with it. Especially the song Dancing nancies.

Now my question is..

I peeped the tab on this site and i'm having trouble with the finger placement on the intro, verse and yea basically everywhere..if anyone can help me with this then I should be set to go and try to piece it together and play it..

thanks in advance...

Well, on the verse there are numbers besides the tabs that tell you what fingers to use.

1: pointer
2: middle
3: ring
4: pinky

As for the rest of Daves chord formations, try looking at the Dave Style Lessons link that is on the front page of dmbtabs.com (Id link it for you but for some reason I cant copy and paste anything right now, weird)

When playing the first chord of the verse, use your first finger (index) on the 2 on the A string. Then use your middle finger on the 3 on the low E string. Finally, us your pinky on the 4 on the G string. This sets you up perfectly for the switch to the second chord because you only have to move your index finger up one string, leave your pinky in place, and drop you third finger onto the 4th fret of the D string. Hopefully I didn't confuse you anymore with that. Let me know if that helped, and then I'll get to the chorus. Hope it helps.

Code: Select all

E----------
B----------
G----4----- <------4 (pinky)
D----x-----
A----2----- <------1 (index)
E----3----- <------2 (middle)
My guitars:
Taylor 714
Taylor 614ce
Martin Sigma DR-41
Epiphone Chet Atkins SST (Ebony)
Danelectro 56-U2 reissue
Fender American Deluxe Strat
Fender Aerodyne Telecaster

If you barred it, you wouldnt be able to play the 2nd fret on the A string, so you just put your finger on it. And when you put your pointer on the 2nd fret, make sure it lays flat a little, enough so that it mutes the D string.

How long have you been playing btw?

This isnt your first Dave song youre trying to learn is it? I ask just because you dont seem too familiar with "Dave Chords" and this might not be the best song to start out learning on.

I guess you gotta learn the hard dave chords and songs at some point, but you should definitely get used to being able to play all the dave chords all over the fret board, you get those down and youll go far quickly.

Its amazing how peole stumble on to this site and never seem to notice the tab page on the front or any of the dave lessons. Not trying to make fun here, just a strange observation realized through time.

NeoLP314, in addition to reading the "dave lessons" you could also go to http://www.youtube.com and search dancing nancies and you'll find videos of dave and of other people covering the song. Might help you along the way to learning this awesome song. Goodluck man.

2. And the "And my mouth..." which goes straight into the lead verse...what fingerings are used for those chords?
