Ovation

anyone hear play an ovation? if so or not I was wondering what the general view is of these guitars. I bought a celebrity about three years ago and like it, but I wish I would have bought something else.

I'd take a Martin X Series or even a Fender before I play a guitar with a plastic cereal bowl on the back.

Celebritys and ovations are pretty crappy IMO, how much are you looking to spend and what do you want/like? Body style, cutaway, etc...

As far as a live guitar, ovations are not all that bad, they wear well with time and sound pretty good. I wouldn't use it much for recording though because i dont like the unplugged sound as much as a guitar made from solid wood. Still they have character and a unique sound and one of my favorite guitars i have ever played was a celebrity 12 string that was mellissa etheridge's signature model.

thanks for the input I couldnt have put the plastic cereal bowl as well

Well i guess that makes me feel a little better about my decision

one thing I will say is that it seems to have a thin neck which makes some of those dave chords easier

I like cutaways cause it gives you the extra option of playing higher if you want.

Anyway when I brought the guitar I didn't know much, but hey Ive grown to like it and will never get rid of it for sentimental reasons

I would like to get a martin or taylor but they are spendy

I priced out dave's taylor at music store nearby

it was the taylor 914 ce I think anyway it was like 4000

Ive heard you guys mention some taylors or guitars of that stature in the price range of 800 or so or am i wrong

I think its my turn to add the Larrivee push. You can get a solid D-03R for that price (solid spruce top, solid rosewood back/sides).

Anyway, thats what I would buy for around $800.

I would like a cutaway anywhere from 800-1500 I guess just some input on what kinds people prefer would be helpful

Yea everytime I watch that I video I think "What the fuck is wrong with Boyd?". He has a poncho and a cowboy hat on, while dancing like some urban indian. Who knows....

As far as the guitar, I think these are pretty shitty as well. Ive played a few ovations and I didnt like the sound or the playability on any of them.

I've given up on trying to convince people that Ovations are nice.
Some people like them. Some people don't.

I have two Ovations, and I used to have three.
Why would I keep buying a guitar if I thought it was shitty?

I have a Celebrity Deluxe CS257, and it's decent.
I have a Legend LX 12 string, and it's very nice. US Made.

I plan to replace the CD with a US made sixer one day.
I think I'm just an Ovation guy. Me and Melissa Etheridge (We both like the ladies

I dont really think there are any real bad guitars once you spend a little money, they just have different personalites.

Ovations are certainly distinct and definitely not bad guitars.
