Aura V.S. AD-8

Unread post by 6_strings_for_life » Thu Sep 28, 2006 1:37 pm

I basically am on a never ending quest to get the best possible sound out my acoustic amp. Of course I have been looking the Aura (Link1) now and I have seen all the great things that everyone has said and the vids on the site. But before I buy, I have also been looking at the competition. The Boss AD-8 (Link2) looks very appealing with the plethora of options and possibilities. I see that the AD-8 says that it works best with piezo-equipped acoustic guitars and I use a magnetic M1 active. Do you think that is a big issue? Now I dont live near a store that has both or either of these, so I cant do a side-by-side comparison. I was wondering if anyone here has tried either or both of these? Also do you think there are any other options that I should check out besided the Aura and the AD-8? Does anyone know any sites that have done a shootout with these petals? I just want to get the most for my money im not sure what one to get. Thanks.

I don't know anything about the Boss one, but I saw Tim Reynolds on 09/22 and he uses the Aura live. The sound was incredible. It literally sounded like an acoustic guitar that was miked, not plugged in. Basically just a truer acoustic sound. The guitar sounded in no way like it was plugged in direct.

The fishman does seem quite powerful, although it doesn't have much buttons... :)

I wouldn't mind putting my hands on one...

Yea the fact that Tim uses one weighs alot. I figure he has probally tried every petal in existance and only settles for the absolute best. Thanks for the replies so far.

jm uses the aura too, which sells me. while it may not be cost-efficient, you can always lengthen the chain if you wants effects.
