Martin X Series Question

Post by Taylor614 »

This is just a random question that I had about these 3 Martin X Series guitars. I know they are have laminate b/s , but do they have any difference in sound?

1. DX1
2. DX1R
3. DX1K

Do they have any diffrence in tone whatsoever? I've never gotten a chance to play any of them and just was curious.
My guitars:
Taylor 714
Taylor 614ce
Martin Sigma DR-41
Epiphone Chet Atkins SST (Ebony)
Danelectro 56-U2 reissue
Fender American Deluxe Strat
Fender Aerodyne Telecaster
BC Rich Eagle Custom

IMO, any Martin with X in its name is junk.

yeah as far as laminates go martin makes the best... however the same price you could get an alverez or a tak with solid wood.

id definitaly say there are better guitars for the money, but you get the marting sound, blend, and bass that martins have regardless of the laminate sides and back....my opinion

I used to have a DX1CE, and when I bought it I tried out that, and pretty much every solid wood guitar in the same price range. IMHO it blew them away. (Taks, Washburns, Ibanez's, Yamahas) I'm glad that i have a solid-wood guitar now, but the X series (at least that model) was great for me at that time.

Yeah just consider how long you want to have the guitar for. Laminates deteriorate over time, solid wood guitars get better with age.

sorry to bring back a dead thread, but I don't want to start another.

I'm looking for a nice acoustic for 4-550 and I was looking at the DX1. I don't want to spend a ton, so for my price range it seems good, however I know I could spend more and get something better.

Guitar center has two listed.

And

I was wanting the 2nd one, but mine only carries the first one I listed.

For that price range I'm looking at spending is that about the best I'll do? What do think about the neck being made out of a dozen pieces? Is that not an issue? I'd thinkt he body was more of an issue. Anyways, I'd really be happy to hear what any of you think.

I was kinda looking at this when I first saw it tonight. Seemed to be something that would get better over time. The DX1 seemed to have a little more bass to it, however probably not by much.

Not sure if I like the DX1 for the lack of fretboard dots. Played one at a GC near me and it felt too cheap (although it does have the martin name)

for your price range I would look into Takamine's. Lots of people stand by them and they DO sound pretty good.
