Lowden Guitar

Post by EnFuego »

I just bought a Lowden F25c. It should be here in a week or two. I'm pretty excited to get it. Its EIR with Western Red Cedar top. Anybody else have any Lowden (now called Avalon) experience? I have found some pretty good audio clips online of other Lowden's in the process, so let me know if you would like to hear some.

p.s. I sold my Taylor 714 LTD a few weeks ago...regretted selling my cedar topped guitar, so went on a hunt for a new one and I found this Lowden.

Lowden=my favorite guitar company. I have never played as well as I've played on some Lowden's that I've picked up. I don't know if it's the action or what. Someday I will own one.

I just got home (I found out last Friday that I was being sent out of town on a business trip this past week and I didnt get home until today). Anyway, the guitar was delivered to my wife's work and she brought it home. It sounds amazing and plays great. I'll post a few pics probably tomorrow.

And why did you you sell your 714? Nice guitar by the way.

I think that is the same model my father has. I will check next time I visit home. I know he got a fishman pickup installed and the sound is incredible. That guitar has so many different tones and the pickup seems to get all of them. The 3 wood neck looks really nice too.

It was a nice guitar, but I had a good oppurtunity to buy a handbuilt guitar, but it somewhat fell through (mainly on my part). I was trying to find the perfect combination of guitar that would have the sound of a dread when strummed (volume and headroom), yet still held the intricacies/note definition of a small body/cedar topped guitar when fingerpicked. I came to the realization that I was asking too much for a single guitar, so I decided I missed my small cedar topped guitar, and decided to look for a new one, and down the line find a dreadnought for a "strummer". As it turns out this Lowden actually handles strumming fairly well (better than the Taylor did, but obviously it isn't the bass cannon that a Martin HD-35 is), but I plan on using it mainly for fingerstyle. It especially sounds nice in drop tunings. I like the sound of soft strumming a la damien rice on it too.

I found the Lowden and hadn't played one myself, but I had heard clips of them and have always loved their tone. This may sound pretty silly/stupid, but I also wanted to find something from across the pond (Lowden/Avalon are both made in Ireland). I guess it was fairly risky, but then again I figured that if I didn't like the tone, it would hold its resale value, so I could sell it and continue my quest.

I'm sure you weren't expecting an essay, but I hope that somewhat explains my reasoning.
