You Never Know
You Never Know
I'm learnin' YNK now, but have a problem with the CAPO 2 version. The verse sounds off, and I don't want to download the DIVX codec just to see this video. I understand that Kanter does whatever possible to make the alt. tuning tabs sound good, but has anyone else had this problem. I was wondering if someone could post auio or video of the Intro/Verse of YOU NEVER KNOW. Thansk a lot.

The only way to get a guitar to tune up to Raised B is to get your entire guitar set up for it. You'd have to take one of your guitars to a shop to get set up specifically for Raised B tuning. I have heard of a tuning that you just raise all the strings higher than the Low E up three half steps. But I did this once, and still my G string snapped after I left it in there for too long.
My advice would be to just either mess around with it and work it out yourself. Put a capo on the 3rd fret and raise everything up one string. OR, to just put a capo on the 7th fret and play it like that.

i'm sorry but thats actually completely false - you do NOT need to take your guitar to a shop to get it set up for raised B - what you do need to do is simply buy some stringsMakoMako wrote:The only way to get a guitar to tune up to Raised B is to get your entire guitar set up for it. maybe use an A string for the lowest string?
I registered here today just to help. I found the answer to this question in the FAQ. I did just this about 2 months ago so I know it works and not only does it work but it sounds PERFECT! Since tuning my backup guitar to this I'd have to say I play Oh, Stay or Leave, and You Never Know atleast once a night simply because I love the way the guitar sounds. Give it a shot and let me know what you think. I'm sure you'll love it. I'd only do this if you have a backup guitar, not your primary one.
Here you go.
You cannot re-tune your guitar to Raised B. This is because a
Raised B guitar has completly different string gauges in the
normal positions.
HOWEVER, you can re-string your guitar to be a Raised B guitar.
This is not bad for your guitar as the string tensions are
ligher than normal, but not too light. Here are instructions for how
to re-string your guitar to be in Raised B tuning.
NOTE: PLEASE UNDERSTAND THAT YOU WILL BE UNABLE TO PLAY A SONGS
IN STANDARD TUNING. THIS RAISES THE PITCH OF YOUR GUITAR. IT IS
ONLY RECOMMENDED IF YOU HAVE A 2ND GUITAR TO WORK WITH.
The first thing you need to do is go out and buy
a set of Extra Light strings. I personally chose Elixir's because
I know the guagues are about correct, but you can go with
any string type you like. WHILE YOU ARE THERE, PICK UP AN
EXTRA B-STRING FROM A SET OF LIGHT STRINGS. The gauge for that
string must be .016.
When you get back, the first thing you should do is take
the low E string from the extra light set of string and
throw it away. This is not needed at all.
Next, start with the A string from the extra light set and
string it in the low E position. Then you take the D string
and string it in the A position. Basically what you are doing
here is taking the each string and moving it 1 position up on
the guitar.
This should leave the High E string position w/o anything there. Now
comes in that extra B string you bought. You take that extra string
and string it into the High E position It will be a little
wierd to play because the highest position string will have a lower
pitch than the one above it, but that's how Dave strings his guitar.
Now all you need to do is make sure each of the strings
is tuned to the right note. Dave Matthews Raised B guitar is
tuned to the following notes:
B:----------
F#:----------
D:----------
A:----------
E:----------
B:----------
There ya go, now you can play Stay or Leave and You never Know!!! Enjoy.
NOTE: YOU WILL NEED A TUNER IN ORDER TO GET THE RIGHT
PITCH AS YOU CANNOT USE OTHER STRINGS AS REFERENCE.
Cheers!
Then I apologize. i like playing this song in standard tuning. i think it sounds pretty good. i've never tried the tab from this site. i usually look around at different versions and combine what i think sounds good. besides the intro i think this version http://www.nancies.org/music/tabs/?id=165 is decent. at least this is my opinion.
