Studio Condenser Mics

Ok, so up to this point i have used my Sm 58 to record everything but while at a buddy's house I tried out his condenser mics, and my god, what a difference!

He had the MXL 900 series vocal and intrument mics and they sounded really good, plus he only paid $100 for both of them. I found the same deal on Amazon

So my question is: is this a good buy, I mean you can't beat the price, but do yall know of anything better in this range 80-150?

It's a good buy. I have that larger mic on its own, and it is a superb value.

Buy it. Try making a recording like this when you get it.

Point the pencil condensor at the twelfth fret and set the LD mic up near the bridge, both 6"-12" away from the guitar. Send them to your computer on totally separate channels, one panned hard right and the other panned hard left. Mix them down into some great sound.

Pan one mic on the mixer all the way to the right and the other all the way to the left. Set your recording program to record two tracks, and put one track as recording from the left and the other from the right.

damn this makes me think i really want phantom power in my amp i hope to buy soon...

is there no other way to power a condenser? it seems really GAY that theres no way to power them externally.

a preamp, sure. if your amp has a dedicated mic line, there's like a 99% chance it has phantom

see ive been shopping around extensively and all of the amps im considering have dedicated mic channels, but only one (the largest and most exspensive) says it has phantom power... gur.

Man you can get a phantom power supply for like $30. It will just power the mic and send an XLR out to wherever you want it to go.

I dont think that would work. A mixer is used to mix down to a single channel. I think you're going to need a soundcard that has multiple inputs.

You could have a soundcard that has left and right inputs or one that has a stereo input. Just isolate the channels in the program as well as on the mixer.

Anyone use a Rode NT-1 or NT-1A? I have seen this getting pretty good reviews as a budget mic.
