Taylor 300 series question

When I first got my Taylor 614ce, I was actually lookin' to get a 314ce. Things worked out well though. One thing I always heard was that the 300 series Mahogany wasn't actually Afican Mahogany. Is this true? I'm lookin' to get a 314ce as another backup guitar.
