martin D28 or 35

Post by srslots81 »

well

ive asked many of you for advice and i bought a Martin DC-16RGTE Aura

the more i play it the more i cant help but think i should have gotten a traditional martin. it sounds great, but there is something bothering me with these crazy electronics and satin sides, and just the fact that it is so modern. man made fretboard (micarta). i want the real deal.

i think im gonna return it and get either a 28 or 35, and put in electronics later on down the line (ones that dont mean me cutting a big hole in the side)

let the arguments begin on whether i should get the 28 or 35. i think i like the slimmer neck in the 35. i can get the 28 for 1560 and 35 for 1710.

i *personally* would opt for an hd if you can afford the extra cost. if you go that route, my favorite is the 28v

H = Herringbone

Is that the only difference?

there are certain things im not aware of.

1) what the herringbone actually means
2) the difference of a V neck
3) what is scalloped vs non scalloped bracing.

i dont think there is a chance in hell i can afford an HD-35

Herringbone is like abalone or pearl, its cosmetics. They just put an inlay around the body and in a few other places. Ive never played a V neck, but Id imagine the neck is just shaped more like a V, pointier more so then rounded. As for bracing, I dont really know.

If you're going to buy a Martin, buy from either Maury or Jon

Jon

Maury

I'd go with the HD-28, but if you can go for the HD-28V.

Check out the Unofficial Martin Guitar Forum and look around in the Buy/Sell Section

No, Herringbone is just the cosmetic difference, the HD has much better bracing
