Reggae Sound

Post by m98ter »

I'm in the process of making a switch from playing acoustic to electric hopefully with the end result being a niftly little band here where I'm from. My towns best hand percussionist (who happens to be about my dads age) has asked me to play with him, and his styles are mainly reggae/latin/world based music. Does anyone know what pedals are commonly used to get that Bob Marley, Sublimey, Ben Harperish all downstroke reggae sound? I've never deavled into it much, but it seems to me like a mild distortion combined with just a hint of delay? Any help is appreciated.

you don't need pedals

use a clean sound with a little extra treble

Random movie quote to make you seem hip and "with it": You're a hooker? Jesus, I forgot! I just thought I was doing GREAT with you!

Single coils work best, though humbuckers will do as well. Dial in alot of treble and not much mid, maybe a little reverb. Any amp will do, though a tube fender might work best. You don't need a wah, but they definitely give a reggae sound.
