Problem with Marshall Amp

Post by CPTino3001 »

Thought I would run this by someone to see if anyone had any ideas...

I was playing through my Marshall MG100DFX today, and all of the sudden the volume cut to about half, and when I tried turning it up, I got hardly any of its full volume.

I've never had a problem with it before, but this time I had a Boss DS-1 plugged into the effects loop to give my signal a little boost. It's a solid state amp, and I don't know if I blew a fuse (if there are any) or if something else is wrong. The speaker seems fine, just not the amp.

I'd appriciate any help.

First just plug your guitar directly into the amp to see if its something in your effects loop.

i would check the chord your using. And depending on what instrument you're using, you might have a battery powering active pickups. you may have to replace this battery. But most guitars and basses do not have these.

Amp

It's not the chord, my Les Paul has the stock pickups which are passive, and I tried unplugged everything from the effects loop.

I did however narrow it down to maybe being a problem with the wiring in my guitar though and not the amp. When the volume starts to cut out, if I hit the strings harder than usual and try to force the signal through at a higher volume, it sometimes kicks back to normal for anywhere from a few seconds to a couple of minutes.

I don't know if its worth taking out the humbuckers and taking a look inside the guitar, but if anyone has any ideas on that let me know.

I also noticed though that the problem is pickup independant, becuase switching to either pickup individually does not solve the problem.
