The Official *Best Guitar in Your Price Range* Thread

Post by czech »

OK,

No point in me making another thread to add to the trash heap of, "What guitar should I get for $_____.00

So I figured, why doesnt everyone just post what they consider to be their top 3 guitars or so in each price range. I ask that you only post guitars that you have personally played. No one should buy a guitar on 3rd hand heresay.

ranges:

The beater: $100 - $200's
Intermediate: $300 - $600's
Novice: $700 - $1,200's
Advanced: $1,300 - $2,000
Spoiled: $2,000+

I dont shop around for expensive guitars, so suggest any changes in price ranges.

My first request would be, what does anyone suggest for a beater travel guitar? I am thinking of gettng the Alvarez RD8, but there are no authorized dealers near me, so i'd have to order online.

shoot away.

100-200$- Washburn D-10s, this was my first guitar and it sounds fine and most importantly stays in tune and has good intonation.
700-1200$- Larrivee L-03R, honestly I wouldn't hesitate to put my Larrivee up against any factory built guitar even high end Martins or Taylors.

Larrivee fits into all those categories. Greatest guitars ever period.

now, if I was looking into either the RF8 or the RD8, what would the differences in those two body styles be. Im sure the dreadnaught would have more bass, but what are the advantages of the RF8?

My girlfriend bought this guitar, shes never played it (for the most part) its sitting next to me as I type and it really is pretty nice. It has a smaller body, I dont know that much, as for other differences I have no idea. I thought about buying it off of her for a beater, but I already have one and dont need it (and I dont have the cash) She wants to sell it, why dont you go play one and if you like it, if you want it, shed probably sell it to you.

Personally, I was amazed at the sound for a < $200 guitar.

RF8, which I think would be even better for a beater/travel guitar because its smaller.

Ok. this annoys me... larrivee does not make a guitar for less than 700 dollars. thats what makes them so great, they have no beater or beginner guitars, everything with the larrivee name plays like a god. also, anything they make above 200 is just one of their lower models with cosemetic differences, and therefore doesnt play any better. thats the other great thing about them, the have bare bones, solid wood acoustics with more attention to detail than anyone and at a great price.

atleast whore larrivee properly. thank you

the rd8 is the best guitar i have, because im a broke ass college student but i love it, i think it sounds great. maybe once i get out of school, get a real job, and pay off a few loans i may go drop some serious cash on a "great guitar". but i love my rd8, ive had no problems with it and ive played more expensive guitars that i dont like nearly as much.

I'm thinking about getting this. I realized that there;s no point in getting another dread that is under $500, my AD60SC is just fine.
But for some reason I want somethign different, I have the natural ad60sc, i have a black dread that i beat to ever lovign shit, so i think I want to get this now:
also, I really wanted a hard shell case, so if I can get one with this sucker, it makes more sense to buy it.

:D good. I figure why get two dreads, but this would be fun to fuck around with, and since i'll have a hard shell case, a beater wont be as necessary.
