Tips for slide playing

Post by mangold »

Im interested in learning how to solo in the slide style. Ive been inspired by people like john butler and robert rANdolph. I use a medecine bottle slide and a wee bit of distortion. Any tips? especially on doing it without tuning to open?
thanks in advance

ummmmm, delay and high reverb and echo effects all sound good with slide, they definatley help fill up the empty space. see L@LC ants slide solo.

A slide works good with natural minor and major progressions, such as the dueling bajo thingie timmy does on ants and the funky stuff he does on WWYS.
Forget about the reasons and the treasons we are seeking
Forget about the notion that our emotions can be swept away, kept at bay
Forget about being guilty, we are innocent instead
For soon we will all find our lives swept away

Personally I use the women tone when I play slide on electric, i think it sound pretty good, but I can't help you with technique, I play slide stuff over 12 bar blues, so that's fairly simple, just know your scales, and vibrato on the right note :D

If you like Eric Clapton and have his Unplugged album check out http://12bar.de/unplugged.htm. It has the songs he played slide on configured for standard tuning.
