buzzing strings

Post by T1nM4n »

hey i have a problem with my strings buzzing on my acoustic, no matter how hard i press the fret it'll buzz with only moderate strumming, depending on the fret, im jsut looking for more a quick fix cuz i know my guitar isnt that good ne ways(ibanez aw100) and i want to get a new one once i get a lil more cash but i was wondering if maybe a lighter gauge string would do it, i currently play Elixir Medium, but was considering either the D'Addario EXP 80/20 bronze lights or maybe the EJ11 80/20 lights, any comments on any of these types of strings or and suggestions for sumthing that will help reduce buzzing but keep a nice bright sound

There are a few reasons why your strings could be buzzing

- you might just need to restring it, but probably not
- you might need to get a fret(s) sanded down
- you might need to reset your action

There are probably more reasons. I read on here once that the cold does something to the guitar to make it buzz, but im not entirely sure how that works.

Anyways, there are a few way to fix your problem but someone more knowledgeable on the subject will probably help you out.

try putting mediums on, if that dont work then adjust the truss rod

might be your strings to close to your fret board to begin with
take what you can from your dreams, make them as real as anything-DJM

I thought the lighter the string gague, the less buzzing. I learn something new every day about guitar around here.

no, heavier strings put more tension on the fretboard and will raise your action slightly, often fixing minor buzzing problems

yeah, but if you're already at mediums then you prolly shuldnt go heavy... try adjusting the truss rod ever so slightly (to the left) like 1/5 to 1/4 turn and let it settle over night

now, i dont know much about this truss rod stuff so let me clarify, should the adjusting be done with strings on it already, cuz i already got the new ones on it right now and also would the adjsuting be done with the "nut type" thing that can be seen through the sound hole looking like it would go up the neck, if my mom didnt have my digital camera i could post a pic
