New computer; trouble recording - please help!!

Post by Buck23 »

Hey y'all,

I dont know if this is the right forum or not, but I figured I'd post it here because someonw will have run into it before.

I just bought a dell inspiron 6000 laptop, and I either get no volume recording, or lots of noise from the laptop. this is with "microphone boost" on and off, and I played with the volume for a while. I used to record on a gateway solo 9500 using MTstudio and an external mic.

possible problems:

1) the mic jack on my new laptop sucks.
2) my new sound card sucks.
3) my laptop sucks
4) I suck, and havent found the right setting.

anyone ever ran into a problem like this before? Thanks in advance for any help.

Look at External USB recording cards. Look at Maudio.

make sure the recording option line in or mic input is checked depending on what input jack you're using.

Yea def. check to make sure your using the right recording option like guitardmb said. open your volume control, then click on the options drop down, click properties, check the recording bubble, check all the avilible boxes then click ok. Make sure the correct input is checked and not muted or turnd all the way down.

yeah I only have two recording options - microphone, and stereo mix. I have played with both options, and I am pretty sure that's not it. any other ideas?

if you do get an interface, buy it from http://www.sweetwater.com
all their employees are real engineers and they can make sure that you wont have any problems with compatibility(make sure you ask though). Because many dell's won't work with certain audio hardware-
