General string question

Post by gvntofly »

i was hoping you guys can give me some advice on some strings i should try out. I'm sure this has been posted somewhere in the forums (i looked but didnt find anything) so forgive me if this becomes a re-post. this is my situation. when i first started playing (a little over a year ago) my guitar teacher thought that it would be best if i use Martin Silk and Steels. i like them and they make my Alvarez sound really nice but since ive been playing (trying to play is more like it) DMB tunes ive been wearing the hell out of my strings. i usually play about 2 hours + a day when i have time. What would you guys recommend as far as a set of strings that will last longer and provide good tone?

thanks in advance!!!
Tim

either d'addario's or elixars. two completely different kinds of strings, but the best of their kind IMO

Exactly. I don't hate Elixirs but they last quite long. I bought D'Addario EJ17's for the first time and don't plan on buying a different kind for awhile. This strings sing.

Every time I put on a new set of Elixirs I think they sound like ass. As soon as I put these EJ17's on I was amazed at how nice they sounded.

have you played nanos or polys, I hate the feel of polys because they are very slippery, nanos arent that bad at all, especially after playing on them for a little while, they feel pretty much normal

Exact opposite here, I think anything but elixirs sound terrible. My uncle heard my guitar (and his new one which came with elixirs) hes been playing for more years then Im alive and he thinks these strings make all the difference too. But I guess it all comes down to preference, that and being wrong if you prefer d'addarios to elixirs.
