Recording an Electric

Ive been trying to record my electric lately but i am having trouble controlling the volume it records at any suggestions

I am running the guitar to the amp, then the amp to the comp, so i can still get distortion and what not, any advice on controlling the volume it is recording at would be great

hmmm, I guess I should work out when you adjust the volume on the amp and on the sound mixer on your comp.

what exactly is the problem? do you get no signal at all? or is it too low?

You might want to try to mic the amp instead of running it directly. Then run the output from the mixer in. Just a guess since I don't know what the problem really is.

Get a small effects box. That what I did, and it work great. I have a digitech rp50 proccessor for that few times that I play electric, and its perfectly fine. Just go: guitar -> box -> computer.

HOW MANY TIMES DO I HAVE TO SAY THIS!!!!

skip the amp. go from guitar to cpu. if you want the effects you can either get a pedal... or...

heres my little secret. you can actually make your own overdrive by doing in essence what overdrive is: turn the volume on your guitar higher than the recording volume on your cpu. it works well and you can actually make your on brand of distortion that you cannot get from a pedal.

Now now, I use my pedal and run it into my amp and THEN to my comp, and I have no issues with sound at all, so it's all a matter of adjustment and patience.

Guitar -> Pedal -> Amplifier -> Sound Card

Also, look at how you're setting up your EQ on your amp or pedal et cetera.

As for volume issues, I record with programs that let me see the db bar on screen so I know if I'm too loud, I suggest Sound Forge or ACID Pro as recording if you're looking to go anywhere with it.

dont have a mic, i have a garageband cable i was wondering if there was a way to run from my amp to the comp with some kind of way to reduce the volume level it records at
