Home Depot Center

Post by Davy28 »

Is this venue any good?

Here's my little predicament. My Navy ROTC summer cruise will cause me to miss all three gorge shows (FUCK!!!) and probably the chula vista (coors ampitheater) show as well, but since I will return from the cruise and be in San Diego near the end of August I might be able to catch a bus and make one of the two LA shows at the Home Depot Center before I fly home to Seattle. I'm just curious since they might be my only chance to catch a Dave show this summer.

I was at both shows last year, and it's actually a great venue. The acoustics are pretty damn good. It's a soccer stadium, and you know how popular soccer is in the US. So it's really small. The floor is huge, and anything in the first section or two are great seats (I was able to get 6th row for the sunday show last year and I signed on to TM 5 minutes late.) The saturday show I bought tix the day of the show and got the second side section, and the show was good from there. Good vibe, very clean venue. Beer is expensive, but what else is new?

How about traffic getting to and from? If I decide to go through with it I will probably end up staying at the youth hostel in San Pedro near the beach, about 11 miles away.

There's almost no traffic at all. Then again, I parked on sidestreets (tricky because it's residential and you need a permit, but if you're willing to walk 10 minutes or so you'll find some free parking with no permit necessary.) Otherwise, the ONLY parking is in the venue lot, and they wanted like $15 last year.

It was easy to sneak in mini bottles of booze too, if you're into that. If I'm in town (I'm not sure if I will be yet) I could hook you up with a ride for sure.

Have you been to a show at SBC? It fucking blows. Unless you get first section of the floor, I don't know if I'd even go. I don't know why they didn't go shoreline.

Seriously. I'm not 100% that I can make it yet, but you should come. We can get faced in compton (where the venue is conveniently located) before we get in. Las year I had to fight off homless black guys wanting a pull from my liquor.

Well, the venue is technically in dominguez hills, but it's literally two blocks from compton city limits.

The reason I am asking is because I have never REALLY been in LA (excluding Disneyland, which isn't really LA). The city has always seemed so daunting.

What about the taxi guys? Do they have their shit together? They certainly do in San Diego, but what about LA?
