Hello and a question

So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

Hello and a question

Post by shaboogie25 »

Hey everyone I'm new here, but at the same time not new. I have been reading these boards and using this site for all my Dave tab needs, and it is definitely the best. I finally signed up for the boards tonight, and I'm here to say hello. Hello! I just have one quick question; I have been playing Dave music for almost a year now, and it sounds pretty good. However, I can't seem to get that same "crisp" sound that Dave has. If anyone has any tips or suggestions, please let me know. Thanks alot, and by the way, my name is John.

Peace

Just keep in mind that every single time you hear Dave, he is playing out of a Taylor 910 with brand new strings. Probably has a lot to do with it.

Use extra light strings!! That is the best advice that I can give you. Martin Marquis are the ones I use, and they get the job done nicely. They will give you the percusive sound, plus they will be clear and bright. They don't last long if you play all day everyday, (they get dirty quickly) but they are strong enough to last through a four hour gig. My bandmates don't seem to have as much success with them as me though.

Peace!!

Not too much right now. It seems whenever I have nothing to do and come on these boards, no one seems to be posting. Glad to see somebody has decided to join me.

Mediums just can't be percusive enough for me. I need more of a snare sound to operate. It's going to be different for each guitarist. I think with being "plugged" Mediums have a little too much bass. Lighter strings definitely give you that little bit of brightness that Dave is known for.

As far as I know Dave uses D'Addario lights..the 12 gauge i think...the blue pack.....and he uses the orange tortex standard pick......give that a try..........the crazy african rythm helps too
