Dreadnought Taylor vs grand auditorium taylor 700 series

Post by WyoJLH »

So im in the market to buy a taylor, and i have found a 710ce for a really good price, but the only taylors ive played have been 614ce or 714ce...meaning they are grand auditorium style instead of a dreadnought like the 710. Anybody have a dreadnought taylor, and if so how does it play compared to other style of taylors. My problem is ive always liked the feel of a little smaller guitar, and i know the dreadnoughts are larger than the grand auditorium. But the dreadnoughts have a bigger sound which is good for acoustic rythym, which i mostly do, playing as opposed to finger picking...i dont know...just wanna see what people think...help me out

I personally like dreadnoughts better because thats all I've ever played on. Do you have a DN now or GA??? It all depends on what you like better. The two different styled also feel quite different while playing. Pick up a few of each and see which one you find more comfortable and easier to play. And, obviously which one sounds best to you.

the Dreads are a little louder with a little more bass. the GA's will be more balanced a little more trebly. not too much difference I don't think though in the sound. I've played a 310 that sounded pretty much the same as the 714.
good, and you?

Dreads are good for rythm playing and strumming. The GA's are good for strumming and fingerpicking, that's why Dave likes them.

I see what you guys are saying...I was able to play a 614ce for about two months a little while back and it was awesome, the only problem was with the heavy strumming required for daves style produced a little fret buzz on the 6th string...I have to find my way to a guitar store so i can play a 710 ce to see if i like it better because the deal i found was an online store, so i wouldnt be able to play it beforehand. Im assuming though because it is a dreadnought hopefully it will get rid of that fret buzz with heavy ryhthm playing....

thanks for the replies guys

The deal you had before was online???? I thought Taylors can't be sold online unless they're used. I could be wrong though.

There is also that site that JKanter was talking about a few weeks ago called buffalo bros. or something. They had really sweet deals, and an upgrade policy that was unbelievable. If you buy a guitar from them for lets say $1500, and after two years you don't want it anymore, you can sell it back to them for $1500 as long as it is in good condition.(a few tiny nicks is ok, but holes or cracks are not.) But the catch is is that you can purchase a $2000 guitar for $500!!!! What a sweet deal if you ask me.
