pick ups?

Topics about musical instruments other than guitar should go here. There's bound to be a Carter, LeRoi, or Yo-Yo Ma out there.

pick ups?

Post by bassman462 »

ok i didn't even know there was different pick ups until i came to the boards and now im really wondering what the difference is. i play like alot more around funk and stuff to where a fender jazz bass would fit good but i dont really want to go with that and im in the market for a new bass and want to go with a warwick my freind's thumb sounds awsome and is the type of sound i'd like. so what kind of pickups are those, passive or active?

My thumb was active

I didn't like the tone very much though. Most active basses will give you on-board tone shaping. IE bass/treble boost/cut.

Any bass can have a funk sound, it's all in your fingers.

there are so many variables it's not even funny.

give that bass to any professional wank bassist and he'll make it sing. you just gotta learn how. takes time.

i just maxed out all the knobs on my gsr200 and set my amp to the slap setting (see warwickbass.com's product spotlight) and it sounds funky as hell.. just like fonzie on ants marching at the gorge 02.

Instead of just "maxing out" the controls and making it sound like ass, there are a number of things you could do to make it play better for this "funk" you seem to possess. lower the action, get lighter guage strings with round cores and stainless winding.
