Just got a banjo. I know nothing about it. Any sites? I know fatjack or checkii or one of you plays. Please don't show me any tab sites...i'm forcing musicianship upon myslef out of the bass clef.

"standard" banjo tuning (low to high):D G B D (the high drone string is a G)

no, low to high:

D G B D

the short string is tuned to G (that's the drone string)

Oh. It covered the D because you put a colon in front of it and made it into a

face. see, combine : and D and you get

I get it now. A coworker gave it to me because he never played it. So stoked.

Congratulations on the banjo!

One of the best sites out there is http://www.banjohangout.org. It has a lot more than just Tab. It has a very large section with lessons, and links to pages about everything banjo. It also has a very active set of forums with people who are always glad to help a new picker!

i have heard great banjo work, but still cant still them. Have you tried mandolin? pretty fun lil instrument.

I'm most likely getting a banjo and an acoustic guitar for my birthday, which is August 24th. I can't wait.

I'm also saving up money for a Selmer tenor sax.

my grandp[a makes mandolins by hand at home in texas. they are fucking nice.

The banjo is such a tough instrument to learn, but it makes a HUGE difference if you have some experience playing guitar and especially fingerpicking on an acoustic guitar. There are plenty of great books and internet sites out there. If you're starting from scratch on banjo, Earl Scruggs wrote an instructional book which I've heard is tremendous. Good luck and stick with it - it'll make a difference a few months down the road!
