Rhythmpattern of dmb songs ?

Hi

I've been trying to play dmb songs for awhile now, but i still have problems with the rhythmpattern of some songs. I can do the stretches for Crash Into Me and with some cramps even for #41 but i can figure out how to swing my right hand to get the exact rhythm. Hell, i cant even play Song that Jane likes eventhough i can play the chords. It would be awesome if you could post some patterns for Crash Into Me and Song that Jane likes. I just need to know when do i have to play an up or a downstroke, even for the gaps.

it's more about having a sense of rhythm than a strum pattern...after having gone through the troubles that most beginners have with rhythm and such, i think i can safely tell you that strum patterns aren't going to do much, just listen to the song and try to play along...if anything, try playing some jack johnson stuff because most of his rhythms are easy to pick out and good practice if you're struggling

Best advice is to get some videos of Dave playing with Tim Reynolds. You'll notice that his controlled and usually up and down, up and down, up and down while his fretting hand does it's thing.

There was a thread about this previously and I will give you the same advice I gave that guy....I'm not the greatest guitarist...likely not as good as most of the people on this site but I fould the rythym part easy to pick up. I attribute that to truly "feeling" the songs I play. Alot of the times I will mute all the strings and just play along with the rythym of a song. Also in the car or anywhere for that matter, tap your feet or even play air guitar to the songs....I know sounds funny....but trust me it works. Rythym is a feeling, its not a technique.....I always avoided couting up and down strums. I found it to confusing.

I used to have this problem & still lingers with getting the correct rythym on certain songs.

I have really big hands so my left hand is solid as far as achieveing chord structures & transitions to tough "Stretch" chords.

My advice is to listen to the song over & over strictly listening to the rythym & nothing else.
Bet the beat in your head & try to emulate that with your strumming. At first you might hit the wrong strings but dont worry about that..Concentrate on the rythym of your strumming. Keep doing it over & over again & hitting the right strings will come with practice. Hope this obvious solution helps.

A friend of mine told me once to slap on a set of headphones and play while listening to them. you cant hear what you are playing but you can get a better "feel" of the rythym and the song overall. its a good start and i felt it helped me pick up on some more difficult songs.

thanks you all. the "feel the rhthym" was a good tip. up until now i've tried to count the up and down strokes and i always got always confused with this.
after just constantly swinging my hand up and down and just try to play along it works a lot better now
