Rolling Stone top 100 Guitarists

Guys

Noticed that in the top 100 guitarists that Dave, or even more wrong..is that Tim Reynolds was not on the list in Rolling Stones issue last year. What a travesty.....Jack White....but no Tim Reynolds.

I can understand why Dave is not in the list. But no Tim Reynolds thats insane. Also what about artists like Ben Harper or Leo Kottke. They created two very unique styles. Ben on lapsteel and well Kottke, who is just unbelievable on 12-string. Anyone else think any other guitarists that shafted from this list?

They do this every so often and every time it's not even close to the best guitarists. Ever. Is'nt like Kurt Cobain 11th or something? My point exactly. It should be called "the guitarists who have had the most influence in pop culture" or something, in which case dave could be there. but i don't know. the list is always a crock of shit.

I would have to definately agree that tim reynolds should be on the list. Did anyone catch the article where dave got recognized by i believe gibson for being an influential guitarist. daves response was that he was shocked because he said he was not a good guitarist and he just gets pissed off at himself on stage all the time. something along those lines, but it was interesting

I think the list is bull shit.....they obviously put people on the list that the "masses" want to see. Tim Reynolds is relatively unknown to the non Dave fan.....hence..not on the list. Dave is definatley a pioneer in music...the 80's in my opinion were a black hole for music...the dawn of the "manufactured" band, Dave changed that, he made it OK to play what you wanted, not caring what anyone thought.....and further more, he made it OK to play the acoustic guitar again. I challenge you to think of 5 songs from the 80's that are played on an acoustic guitar.

Maybe your right, maybe he doesn't deserve to be on this list...however I think its a travesty that he doesn't get recognized more. You always hear how Nirvana changed the landscape of music......makes me sick...sure they are inovators but on a recognition scale of 1-10..Nirvana 10, Dave 1...total bull shit.

I doubt if even 1/2 of 1% of the population has even heard of Danny Gatton yet he made it on the list (and rightfully so), so your argument does not fully hold water....but I know what you mean.

Here's my top 5...or I should say favorite(s)

1. Jimmy Page
2. Tim Reynolds
3. Eric Clapton
4. Jerry Garcia
5. Jimi Hendrix

I know....very typical list.....but truthful for me. Jimmy Page is unbelievable....very versatile. Led Zep has always been one of my fav's..ever since my Dad used to blast it when I was like 2 years old.

Tim Reynolds is nowhere near the #2 guitar player ever

He is undeniably good

But there are SO many guitar players that people have never even heard of that deserve to be on that list. there are just shitloads of good guitar players.

I mean that list is a farce anyway....DAVID GILMOUR(FLOYD) AS #82!!!!!!

DEREK TRUCKS AS #81!!!!!!

TREY AS #73!!!!!

SANTANA AS #15!!!! BECK HIGHER THAN ALL THOSE AT #14!!?!?!!?!?!?!?!?

But I will say this......every single one of thsoe top 7 deserve to be there. Ok, you can make an arguement that Page should be there...maybe Santana or Garcia.......but that top 7 is just unreal.

I can only imagine what a jam session between those guys would be like.......ha, kinda like the ending to Layla(w/ Clapton and Duane).......x10000000

I had to edit and put one more thing in there............it goes back to that David Gilmour....Dude..the fucking musical genious behind Pink Floyd...PINK FLOYD!!!!! POSSIBLY, AND ARGUABLY, THE GREATEST, MOST UNIQUE, BAND IN HISTORY OF MUSIC......THEIR MAIN MUSICIAN...THE MUSICAL GENIOUS DRIVING THEM.....AT #82!!!! I know what you'll all say....there is no doubt that Floyd wouldn't have been Floyd w/o Roger Waters...but he was the LYRICAL genious behind them....Floyd wouldn't have been the SAME Floyd w/o Gilmour in there...he was the MUSIC MAN. He often played bass on their albums which was Water's instrument live.

Edit #2 will have me ranting about Derek Trucks. HAS RS EVEN EVER SEEN HIM PLAY?!!?!!?!?! I hardly believe anyone that puts fucking Britney Spears on their cover....would be going out to listen to Derek Trucks play guitar. If they did, it was probably from an Allman Brother concert where he wouldn't have stood out and they didn't know him and they kept on saying, where is that unreal, amazing, mesmorizing, stupendous, eclectic slide guitar coming from1?!?!?1?!?!?! Then they just go assume it was a recording of a dead Duane Allman and they go on smoking their crack as they write about some guy they heard abotu once to put him as #81 on all time greatest guitarists even though he is better than about 60 of everyone else

I mean COME ON....sorry, shit like that PISSES ME OFF
