mic problems

ok i bought a mic and every thing but i can only use the sound recorder on windows until i get back to school...im getting a lot of static...is it the mic(it was only like $30)...do i need to get one of those foam things to go on top of it...or is it the sound recorder...help please!!....i tried recording with the mic turned off and it still made the static

What kind of connection is it? And what is the other stuff you bought?

i had the same thing happening when i tried to record on that program...i downloaded a free program on the internet called "kristal" just to have until i find a better one (which shouldn't be hard) and the crackling went away

if it is still scratchy when you turn the mic off, its obviously not gonna help to put a wind screen on it. most likely your connection from the mic to the computer is bad.... unplug and plug it back in tight to ensure good connection.

Is it a buzz....or a hiss. I know you might think it doen't matter... but it really does. Buzzes are usually grounding problems and you would want to lift the connection ( Ground Lift.). If it is a hiss ... then it could be one of MANY things... from a cable problem... to a pwoer problem.
