....1 last side question. I have an elctric/acoustic. Should is till mic it or plug it directly into a mixer?
is it bad that I read the title of this thread and thought "sure man, just go get some sour mix, or maybe some coke, it goes with everything and should run you about 5 bux?"

If your only using a couple of inputs than I'd go with a nice pre-amp. Keep in mind that if your mics are low quality than buying other expensive stuff to put in the signal chain won't do jack. Start with a nice mic (I've heard great things about this one) Then I would get a presonus pre-amp or something comparable. Those Bheringer mixer/preamps suck so stay away. Then if you really want to have pro quality get a compressor (RNC is by far the best you can get for the money.
Thats what I'm hoping to get for myself anyway.

MWR why do you say that? I was just curious because I have one and it works great for me but I really don't have much knowledge in recording so I probably wouldn't know the difference.
on musicians friend it says its for live sound, but can i still use it to recod and hook it up straight to my computer (like does its have the connection things to do that)
Sure Behringer is good for the price but the guys talking about making a demo. If he said that he just wanted to post and get feedback my advice would have been different. I have a Behringer mixer myself and it works well enough but it's also noisy as fuck. You get what you pay for.
I always advise people to spend more money right off the bat because 9/10 times they are going to get more serious about it. That way you avoid spending money on crap that you'll grow out of in a few months. It takes a while to save up for a good git just as it does for recording gear.
hey i bought a behringer, 6 input for $79.99 and it's been wonderful. no problems, great sound. And really the biggest issues is how you go from the mixer to the digital (or analog) The higher the pre-amp quality, or the higher the connection quality, the better it'll sound and be.
