The Space Between Acoustic Help

Post by Stephen »

Hey,

For the Acoustic version.....

The song starts off like this:

E:----------2--
B:----------3--
G:-1-1-1--2--
D:-2-2-2--0--
A:-2-2-2--0--
E:-0-0-0--2--

But in the middle of the song, (like 45 seconds into the song he starts singing "Safe from the pain... when I hold you again....)... he strums this intro and then strums SOME Chord then does this intro riff again, then he keeps repeating this until the chorus....

My question is, what is the chord he's strumming in between these intro riffs on the acoustic version?

Thanks.

He strums the D. It's really percussive and muted and choppy, but it's a D chord.

Sorry to confuse you...by E4 I meant that he's play the 4th fret on the E string along with the D...and then it goes into the next part

The acoustic version can be found "Somehow" on one of those "programs" available on download.com.... ;-)

Whether that live version was played using standard tuning, beats me.

For the percussive sound that he gets on that version, you simply hit the strings semi-hard with the palm and drag the pick through the strings to get the "snare" effect. It's a simple blues sytle stumming technique. It's very natural once you learn it, and it can be thrown into many songs to give it a new feel. Another song with this technique that you might be farmilliar with and is on the top of my head is "My Stupid Mouth" by John Mayer (album version)!

Yes, but if you look at the fingerings, he is playing the chords like he would on the baritone. He is doing the open D chord formation, while when on standard you have to do the open A.

I think this song sounds so much better on acoustic.
